Poets' Corners In Foreign Fields: A Guide To Literary Graves In Military Cemeteries

The idea for this book came from a friend of ours asked for advice regarding visiting the graves of some of the poets killed during the First World War, I sent him the list I have been compiling since 2016 but Paul, my editor and publisher, suggested it might be easier if the information was in book form.

This is very much an on-going project. I only began researching forgotten poets of WW1 in 2016 for an exhibition of those involved in The Somme Offensive and for this particular section of the project, I still need to go back and find those who were killed during 1914 and 1915.

Aviator Poets & Writers Of WW1: A Centenary Collection Compiled by Lucy London

The idea for an exhibition of poets who were in the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service during the First World War, came from a conversation I had with Marilyn Summers, who is the Air Show Deputy Director at Royal Air Force Cosford.

This book is a compilation of the exhibits that I produced for that exhibition and other interesting aviation material that I had previously gathered together.

I think it makes a fitting tribute on the 100th anniversary of the forming of the RAF from the RFC and the RNAS in 1918.

Arras, Messines, Passchendaele & More: Poets, Writers, Artists & Nurses In 1917

1917 is of particular significance to my family because Great-Uncle James Yule was killed on the Western Front on 9th April 1917 – the first day of the Battle of Arras. James has no known grave but is commemorated on the Arras Memorial in France.
My Grandfather – Lewis Jackson – was an “Old Contemptible” and fought with the Royal Artillery in Belgium and France in 1914/15. He later served in Mesopotamia and was with General Allenby when Jerusalem was liberated from the Ottoman Empire in December 1917.
This is the book of the commemorative exhibition held at The Wilfred Owen Story museum in Birkenhead in 2017 to remember some of the poets, writers, artists, musicians and nurses who were involved in the First World War during 1917.
